Spindle shaped, sometimes branched, with a narrow stem, surface rough, brownish black, to about 6 cm high by about 1 cm across
On dead branches from deciduous trees, favouring sycamore
Ascospores spindle shaped, with droplets, smooth (12-16) x (5-7) µm2
This fungus could be confused with slender forms of Xylaria polymorpha. The two may be separated by examination of the spores.
