Convex, expanding with age, silky and fibrous, often covered in veil remnants, white, cream, or straw, to about 20 cm across
Free, crowded, broad, white, then pink
Tapered upwards, smooth, whitish, emerging from a fleshy sack, or volva
Firm, fibrous, white, cream or pale yellow
On dead deciduous wood, and wounds and knot holes in living trees, favouring Elm and Beech
Spores ellipsoidal, smooth (8-10) x (5-6) µm2
Edible, excellent, but best left due to rarity
