Fruiting Body Partially buried in soil, bladder shaped, irregular, sometimes with a small apical opening, sides splitting and folding back to expose the fertile inner surface, outer surface scurfy, whitish to pale brown, inner surface smooth, white then lilac to licac brown, about 3 to 15 cm across Flesh Whitish to pale brown, brittle Smell Indistinct Taste Mild Season Spring Distribution Very rarely recorded Habitat On calcareous soil with trees Microscopic Features Spores ellipsoidal, with two oil drops, smooth or slightly rough (13.5-18) x (7-8.5) µm2. Asci cylindrical, 8 spored, tips blued in Melzer's solution. Paraphyses cylindrical, septate, tips slightly swollen. Edibility Inedible ![]() With beech and holly.
