Fruiting Body

Cup shaped, or flattened, inner surface pale to dark brown, smooth, outer surface whitish or yellowish, scurfy, attached to the soil by a short stem, to about 6cm across

Whitish, firm, when broken exuding a sap which turns yellow

Microscopic Features

Spores ellipsoidal, warty, 2 oil drops (17-21) x (9.5-11.5)µm2. Asci (300-330)x(12-15)µm2. Asci tips blued in iodine. Paraphyses equal, septate, slightly swollen at tips.

Notes

This fungus is easily recognised by the yellow staining sap: the colour may be seen by dabbing some on a white tissue
