DNA from the specimen shown was amplified by Eric Janke and sequenced by the BMS. The results showed a very good match to other sequences for Megalocystidium luridum. However, according to the literature, it keyed out to Megalocystidium leucoxanthum due to the large spores. This suggests that some specimens in herbariums may have been misidentified.
