Cap

Convex, soon depressed, then funnel shaped, velvety, whitish or cream often with yellowish buff patches, to about 25 cm across

Gills

Decurrent, narrow, fairly crowded, thick, whitish, cream, or pale yellowish

Stem

Stout, cylindrical, velvety, concolorous with the cap

Flesh

Firm, whitish, exuding white milk

Smell

Variously described as fruity, foetid, or oily

Notes

This fungus could be confused with Lactarius piperatus, Leucopaxillus giganteus and even Clitocybe geotropa
