Convex, then funnel shaped, with a small central bump, margin lined, scalloped, yellow brown to orange brown, sometimes olivaceous, to about 4 cm across
Decurrent, or adnate with a decurrent tooth, cream to pinkish buff
Equal, yellow brown to ochre brown
Thin, pinkish buff, exuding a thin whitish milk
Indistinct or fruity
Unknown, but according to the Checklist of the British & Irish Basidiomycota, this species is probably fairly common, but rarely reported
Spores ellipsoidal to sub-spherical, with warts and ridges (7-11) x (6-8.5) µm2, warts and ridges to1.5 µm high.
The identification of the specimens shown was confirmed by Dr. Spooner, of Kew. This species could be confused with Lactarius obscuratus.
