Fruiting Body Convex, then depressed, usually with a narrow central bump, reddish brown to orange brown, paler with age, smooth, to about 4 cm across Gills Adnate to slightly decurrent, pale reddish brown Stem Cylindrical, surface downy or smooth, concolorous with the cap Flesh Firm, pale reddish brown, milk plentiful, white, sometimes watery Smell Pleasant, sweet. The dried flesh smells strongly of powdered fenugreek seeds. Taste Indistinct Season Late summer to autumn Distribution Common Habitat With deciduous and coniferous trees, favouring birch and pine Spore Print Cream Microscopic Features Spores sub-spherical, warty (6.5-8.5) x (5-7) µm2.
