Convex, then flattened or depressed, often wavy at the margin, often radially lined at the margin, orange red to brick red, drying pale, to about 5 cm across

Notes

The common name is highly apt for this extremely variable species. Take care not to confuse with Tubaria furfuracea and T. confragosa which grow on woody debris
