Synonymns Galerina mutabilis Cap Conical, then flattened, often with a central bump, smooth, margin lined, yellow brown to orange brown, drying paler, often with a pale centre and darker margin, to about 6 cm across Gills Adnate, crowded, pale ochraceous, then reddish brown Stem Equal, smooth above the ring zone, coarsely scaly below, ring thin, pale at apex, dark brown below Flesh Pale yellow brown Smell Indistinct Taste Indistinct Season Spring to early winter Distribution Common Habitat Densely clustered on stumps and logs of deciduous trees Spore Print Deep ochre Microscopic Features Spores ellipsoidal, smooth (6-7.5) x (4-5) µm2 Edibility Edible, but easily confused with the deadly poisonous Galerina marginata.
