Fruiting Body

Bracket shaped, laterally attached to the substrate, upper surface velvety when young, then smooth, initially pinkish, becoming darker with age, radially zoned, margin rounded, pinkish to whitish, underside initially whitish, then pinkish, finally light brown, bruising darker, pores 4-6 per mm, often exuding drops of red liquid. Brackets grow to about 20 cm across.

Soft, fleshy, pale brown when young, hard and dark brown when old

Notes

This species is very similar to Ischnoderma resinosum which grows on dead wood from deciduous trees. According to Annarosa Bernicchia in Fungi Europaei Volume 10, the context and trama of I. resinosum is pale when old.
