Cap Hoof shaped then shell shaped, laterally attached to the substrate, upper surface whitish at the margin, pale brown and covered with short hairs near the point of attachment, to about 2 cm across Gills Radiating from the point of attachment, whitish to pale cream Stem Absent Flesh In two layers, the upper one grey brown and gelatinous, the lower one whitish and firm Smell Indistinct to mealy Taste Mealy Season Autumn Distribution Very rare Habitat On dead branches from deciduous trees, favouring willow and alder Spore Print White Microscopic Features Spores ellipsoidal, (8-10) x (3.5-5) µm2. Basidia 2 spored. Gill edge cystidia metuloid, sometimes with pointed or branched apex. Gill face cystidia metuloid, usually with a conical encrusted apex, resembling a small morel.
