Hoof shaped then shell shaped, laterally attached to the substrate, upper surface dark brown, orange brown, greyish brown or pale cream, whitish at the margin, covered with short whitish hairs, to about 35 mm across

Microscopic Features

Spores ellipsoidal to bean shaped (5.5-9.5) x (3-5) µm2. Basidia 4 spored. Gill edge cystidia clavate to lageniform with one to three apical fingers, sometimes with pointed or branched apex. Gill face cystidia fusiform, thick walled, often with a conical encrusted apex, resembling an ice cream cone.
