Common Bird's Nest
Initially drum or urn shaped, sides whitish, upper surface scurfy, yellow to orange, becoming cup shaped and darkening with age, upper surface rupturing to expose a hollow interior containing a small number of grey seed like spore cases, or peridioles, to about 8 mm across
Autumn to spring
On debris, such as twigs, dead bracken stems, leaves etc, often in large numbers
Spores ovoid, smooth (7-10) x (3-5) µm2
