Cap

Bell shaped, expanding with age, deeply furrowed, sparsely covered with white and brown scales, especially at the centre, whitish to pale buff when young, becoming greyish with age, to about 2.5 cm across

Gills

Adnate, whitish, then grey, and finally blackish

Equal, slightly expanded at the base, hollow, white

Microscopic Features

Spores ovoid to ellipsoidal, smooth, with germ pore (7.5-10) x (5-6) µm2. Basidia club shaped, 4 spored. Gill edge cystidia flask shaped (lageniform) to bag shaped (vesicular). Stem apex cystidia flask shaped.

Notes

This fungus resembles a pale Coprinellus micaceus, or a small Coprinellus domesticus. It is distinguished by oval spores and flask shaped gill edge cystidia.
